First Part Last - Flashback

FLASHBACK - a literary technique in which a scene of a movie, play, short story, novel, or narrative poem that interrupts the presentaction of the plot to show events that happened at an earlier time.

I think that the author, Angela Johnson, uses flashbacks to tell her story because this way the reader can read the story and know whats happening now but then if there are things that can't be explained at the time that the story is taking place, the author has to use flashbacks to let the reader know what is it that happened back then that has an effect on whats happening right now. I really don't mind which way the author writes it because I'm already used to this kind of changes in stories. I watch Japanese movies that use flashbacks through out the entire movie. It's kind of nice because you get confused about when or what is going on so you have to stop and analyse the situation and then you understand better the whole story.
